Owen Heard

International Pole Vault Athlete

A little about Owen…

In 2018, Owen was ranked 3rd in the UK for Pole Vault, and 6th for 100m Hurdles as an under 17

With the help from his hurdles coach Neil Thackery, Owen was able to achieve a UK ranking of 6th, and also competing at national championships in Bedford.

On top of this, Owen and his Pole Vault coach Conrad Kallinowski managed to achieve a UK ranking of 3rd, and placed 2nd at the English Schools National Championships held in Birmingham. Qualifying for Internationals (SIAB) held in Scotland, Owen attained his first England kit and went on to take the bronze medal for his country.

In the 2019 season, as a lower year Under 20, Owen currently sits fourth in the UK for pole vault with a height of 4m71 and is aiming to achieve the 5 meter barrier.

He’s also looking to run some fast times for the 110m Hurdles and try to rank in the top 10 or higher after sitting at 11th for 60m hurdles in the winter season.

Over the next two years competing as an under 20, Owen wants to represent his country again and continue to compete at an international level.

A little about Matthew…

Matthew Phillips (Matt) was born with his right arm missing below the elbow, he is one of, if not the most recognised para-climbing athlete in the world. From starting climbing only 4 years ago, Matt has gone on to achieve more than most in their whole climbing careers and is still only 18.

From an insecure and solitary young teenage, Matt has grown into a world-champion, celebrated and sponsored professional athlete with friends the world over. Climbing has changed his life and continues to do so. His biggest achievement has to be winning Gold at the World Paraclimbing Championships and becoming World Champion. Another highlight was featuring in the Channel 4 ‘We are Superhumans’ Paralympic Advert.

Matthew has recently left school and has pursued a career as a climbing instructor. He hopes to conquer many routes around the world and inspire others to take up Paraclimbing both in competitions and outdoors through his social media channels. His goal is to help promote Paraclimbing and get it into the 2028 Paralympics.
